Updated: Aug 19

We are deeply saddened to inform you that Prof. Marcus Maurer, a leading scholar in urticaria worldwide, has been missing since July 31st. His extraordinary dedication to research has revolutionized the understanding and treatment of our condition. As the creator of the UCare Centers and the UDay project, he transformed the approach to our disease for both the scientific community and patients alike.

Prof. Maurer is internationally recognized in dermatology and allergology, also due to his role as Executive Director of the Institute of Allergology at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and as Co-Director of Allergology and Immunology at the Fraunhofer Institute for Translational Medicine and Pharmacology ITMP.

On July 31st, while in Canobbio for a family vacation, he went for a walk on Monte Giove and did not return home. After 12 days of search efforts, he has still not been found, and the search operations have been suspended. The news of his disappearance has profoundly shocked us.

All of us at ARCO and our Scientific Board express our solidarity with his family during this time of deep sorrow, and we hope that in the coming days this terrible situation may find a peaceful resolution with the return of Prof. Maurer to his loved ones.
