This morning, a patrol from the Alpine Rescue of the Guardia di Finanza at the Domodossola Station found the body of Prof. Marcus Maurer, who had been missing on Monte Giove since July 31. Recent rains are believed to have carried the body downstream, and it is suspected that the well-known clinician fell into a stream.
As you may recall, Prof. Maurer, one of the world's leading experts on urticaria, was on vacation in Cannobio with his wife and daughter. Search operations began immediately, involving the Sagf, Alpine Rescue, and Fire Brigade, but initially yielded no results. Today, unfortunately, the sad discovery was made.
The disappearance of Prof. Maurer, Executive Director of the Institute of Allergology at Charité Berlin and Co-Director of Allergology and Immunology at the Fraunhofer Institute for Translational Medicine and Pharmacology, deeply shook the international scientific community and all of us at ARCO. Author of over 660 publications and 51 books, his work revolutionized the understanding and treatment of urticaria.
ARCO, along with its Scientific Committee, wishes to express its sincerest condolences to Prof. Maurer's family during this time of great sorrow.
His extraordinary dedication to research and his humanity will leave an indelible mark on all who had the fortune to know and work with him, especially for us patients who have benefited from innovative therapies and thus regained a real hope for healing.
